Case filed for vandalism and looting at BNP office three years ago

A case has been filed in Patuakhali over the vandalism and looting of the BNP office three years ago. The district Awami League president, general secretary, former district council chairman and former municipal mayor, along with 97 leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliate organizations, have been named as accused in the case. District Awami League organizing secretary Ujjwal Bose (52), who is the accused in the case, was arrested on Saturday.

The plaintiff in the case is Mostafa Akon (35), caretaker of the district BNP office. The officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station, Imtiaz Ahmed, confirmed that the case was registered at Patuakhali Sadar Police Station on Thursday night.

The accused in the case include Patuakhali District Awami League President Kazi Alamgir, General Secretary Abdul Mannan, former District Council Chairman Hafizur Rahman, Sadar Upazila Council Chairman Rezaul Karim, former Municipal Mayor Mohiuddin Ahmed, and former Upazila Chairman Sultan Ahmed. Although he did not hold any position in the Awami League, former Mayor Mohiuddin Ahmed’s elder brother Abul Kalam Azad, businessman Mizanur Alam, and his son Ivan have also been made accused.

In this regard, accused Abul Kalam Azad, included in the complaint, said, “I have been involved in business for a long time. Far from holding positions in the Awami League, I have never done politics. I have been intentionally implicated in the case.”

In the complaint, plaintiff Mustafa Akon mentioned that on March 2, 2022, at around 10 am, district BNP leaders and activists organized a protest rally in Patuakhali city under the direction of the central BNP. At that time, the accused in the complaint came there, exploded cocktails and attacked the leaders and activists. Later, they entered the BNP party office and vandalized and looted it. The plaintiff and several local BNP leaders and activists were injured in the attack. Later, they sought treatment at a private hospital.
